The main premise of the game is to be dealt cards totaling up to twenty-one. Every gambler is assigned two cards. When a player is dealt a nine or less and an Ace they have been dealt a soft hand. When the player receives no Ace it is known as a hard hand. Once the cards have been handed to every player at the blackjack table, including the dealer, each player is provided the opportunity to make one of 6 choices:
Requesting another card (Hit): When a blackjack player says "hit me" the croupier will give them another card, if the addition of that card makes the value of the hand to exceed twenty one the blackjack player will have lost and that is the end of the game, if the card makes the total to 21 the player wins and if the total hasn’t yet achieved twenty-one they are still in the game.
Keeping the hand you have been dealt: If a blackjack player is satisfied with the cards they will stand. As soon as this has happened the dealer will disclose his or her cards and the black jack player who has accumulated 21 or the nearest to 21 will acquire a win.
Doubling Down: A player may ask to double down which doubles the wager they have placed. As soon as you’ve taken this action you can only receive one additional card. The specifics of doubling down are usually specified by the blackjack table or betting house game rules so prior to betting make sure you’re comfortable with the house game rules. If you’re wagering at an online casino this is usually very simple.
